Boston & Santa Fe: thought provoking side project

April 4, 2012

Will be helping out Steve Lambert out with his Capitalism Works for Me! project as it tours various locations in Boston during the first two weeks of April and again in Santa Fe beginning July —  interviewing folks about their concerns and thoughts. Should be interesting.

transmediale 2k+12 in/compatible

February 3, 2012

This year’s annual new media festival in Berlin featured reSource a new initiative of transmediale. Isolation and Empowerment after Web 2.0 segment featured work that explores the tensions of hierarchical control and the increasing connectivity and virtualisation of our social relationships by exposing the possible scenarios of networked dystopias, and asked its audience to rethink critical strategies while proposing new paths for political actions (both artistic and hacktivist) based on the recognition of the power of distributed subjectivities.

Salvatrice Settis and I were aptly placed together on the panel Mobilizing the Unrepresentable. Read a review by Roberta Bulani of the reSource event here. In addition to the presenting Interpelled more hypersonic sound experiments also took place inside the Haus der Kulturen der Welt!

Will upload video documentation once transmediale releases it. If anyone has documentation of the event or experiments – please contact me – thanks!

City Soundings for Radiophonic Creation Day

June 4, 2011

City Soundings was a collaborative composition side project made for Radiophonic Creation Day organized by Wiska Radkiewicz and Andrea Cohen. Several composers/artists took field recordings of their home cities, passing back and forth a pool of sound – sort of like a digital editing game of telephone – the result being a collective composition that incorporated many different compositional styles.

Contributers: Steven Brown (UK), Marek Choloniewski (Poland), Andrea Cohen (France), Victoria Estok (USA), Brad Garton (USA), Janete El Haouli (Brazil), Andrew Hugill (UK), Malle Maltis (Estonia), Wiska Radkiewicz (USA), Hernan Risso Patron (Argentina), Franziska Schroeder (UK),Andrei Smirnov (Russia), Marie Wennersten (Sweden), Lidia Zielinska (Poland). Andrea Cohen presented City Soundings during a radio programme on France Culture, the public cultural French radio. Give a listen if you like here to a portion of this broadcast. www.shakerattleroll.org

greenpeace behind the scenes …

“Would I be interested in doing sound for a secret project for Greenpeace?”

The answer was yes.

Seeing two familiar faces (Kert Davies & Phil Radford) made me pause and think about global warming forecasts we heard back at COP6 and how we really only had a 10 year window to really do something about it …

FUTURITY NOW! transmediale.10

February 18, 2010

Seized the surreal opportunity to participate in The Futurity Long Conversation, a 9-hour experimental relay of one-to-one conversations, that brought 21 leading artists, designers, theorists, journalists and media interventionists together to discuss, explore, and in some cases play with the conceptions we have of the future today.

Conversations were an open platform — the participants agreed to come on to stage – without visuals or talking points (in theory unprepared) and allow a dialogue. The vision behind the 9 hour conversation was that participants would be open to following whatever turns the conversations would ultimately take — mirroring the idea that the future itself always eludes our grasp and preparation.
